 Marilyn Monroe. The
greatest female icon in history. Without Doubt. I can barely say in words how
much this woman has influenced the world of glamour and fashion. She is the
epitome of the ‘old Hollywood’ film star, no-one has yet to rival her in being
as absolutely controversial and fabulous as her. She was a woman who fought her
whole life to be accepted as a serious force and actress, she remains to this
day, one of the most misunderstood women of all time and her life seems like a
blur of celebrity and intense emotions, all of which were played out in the
international media. She never was, and never will be, short of critics, many
say that she is a joke, the ultimate ‘dumb blonde’ and that she lived as a
celebrity purely on the fuel of her sex appeal. I completely disagree. This
woman is and ICON. An IMAGE. The woman who sent the international market for
red lipstick through the roof! She became the image of beauty that everyone
tries to measure up to, but no-one can, because her beauty was original and raw.
Nothing like it can ever survive in the shadow she has left behind. I find it
so sad, people seem to fail to appreciate her as not only and Icon, but as a
human being as well, she once said, ‘All I want to be is loved, for myself, and
for my talent’ The things she said all show how much she wanted to be loved and
accepted, and how little fame mattered to her. She was a woman in a mans world,
who remained well and truly a woman. I had a huge challenge with this post; I
didn’t know what to say. I think the most apt thing for me to say is, ‘Marilyn,
I love you’.
A sex symbol becomes a thing. I just hate to be a thing.

I know what you’re thinking. ‘What is that’?
What have I done? I have drawn a horrendously underweight model, wearing a
bodice made out of glass that has shattered round the edges drawing blood. Her
starved body peers out from behind it, imprisoned. Bloodied surgical bandage
forms a skirt, coarsely covering her emaciated legs. Her ravaged face is
trapped behind a full head brace, blood trickling from her eyes and mouth. This
is not a ‘pretty dress’. Both my parents seemed genuinely... Continue reading...

The Royal Wedding. Like it or not, its
happening all around you, and being a fashion blog, I can’t just sit back and
ignore the most Iconic dress of the decade. I like every fashion editor,
blogger or enthusiast in the world am teetering on the edge of my seat, anxious
to see what Kate Middleton, our future queen, is going to wear. I am rigorously
determined that she should wear McQueen. No-one could capture Britain better
than the most prolific couture label in the U.K; Sarah Burton is wit... Continue reading...

You know
what; the Oscars bore me to death. I swear every year everyone just swaps
dresses year after year. I laugh every time I read the bits in the papers the
next day, its all about ‘she was bang on trend with colour blocking’ and ‘the
pastel tones suited her perfectly’. Honestly, I would be happier if who-ever-it-was
wore a neon coloured minidress and had a smile on her face rather than that
floor length Chanel number which gives me more than a bit of de ja vu, and that
stupid po... Continue reading...

I want you
to look at this dress. What do you see? As I see it you can look at this dress
in two ways. You can see the skeleton, the Halloween fancy dress costume
staple, or you can see not just the skeleton, but the core of the wearer. This
dress is revealing, not in a tacky Katie price way, but in a deeper sense. The
wearer is stripping everything off, their skin, their flesh, and their beauty.
For we as a society look at beauty only skin deep. Our eye for beauty ends the
moment we see a b... Continue reading...

The Golden
Globes. A fountain of taste. The chance for the most elegant designers to
showcase the most elegant dresses on the most elegant women. But then, instead
of Manolo's, Two shoes, shoes that don’t even match! And instead of the silky
smooth and sophisticatedly styled locks, a back combed curly beehive, and what
is she wearing? WHO THE HELL DOES SHE THINK SHE IS! Does she even have taste!? I’ll
tell you what this is, this is genius. This is British style at its best, it
what we sh... Continue reading...

This dress
is a fantasy dress. It is a dress that comes from no inspiration in particular,
no particular event or image, it’s just what happens when my mind spits out
something interesting. When the maze of my mind has put something together, and
then shoves it into my minds eye fully formed. Everything I can say about this
dress is in retrospect, it’s almost like I’m reviewing a dress by someone else.
Well, to start, I like the way that the insect-like wings and the flowers
exaggerate... Continue reading...

Every time I ask my friends or family who I should review that week on
this section of my blog, pretty much every time this person is suggested, I
have often thought about doing it, but to tell you the truth, I’m scared. To me
to describe this persons style would be like attempting to describe the
universe in three words! So… who is the fashion icon who scares as much as she
inspires. You know who; Lady Gaga. The thing about her is only she could carry
off what she wears; I’d like to s... Continue reading...

What event in fashion this year has made me saddest? There can only be
one answer. The death of my idol, my inspiration, my hero. Alexander McQueen. I
think he is one of the few designers in the world ever who really deserves the title
‘Genius’; but he is. He created dresses that still leave me cold. His creative
genius is unrivalled by anyone, I could never even dream of having such a
remarkable career as him. He often referred to his mind as the tortured child.
His dresses had a innoce... Continue reading...

Geisha – A Japanese hostess trained to entertain men with conversation,
song and dance. That is what the Oxford English dictionary has to say about
geisha, but being a geisha was so much more. A geisha was a very honourable
profession in Japan
for hundreds of years, it praises everything that is sensuous and womanly, a
geisha would be paid to dance, sing and engage in conversation with men. The
very word geisha comes from two Japanese words ‘Gei’ meaning art and ‘sha’
meaning perso... Continue reading...

About Me
Hi! I'm Sam and this is my blog! As you can probably see I'm VERY into fashion and design clothes as a hobby, it's a bit weird for a teenager I guess but I just love to express myself through designing clothes. I've always been into fashion and now after a long time, I have found someone with the technical knowledge to create a blog so the whole world can see my work. We will be posting a design once a week and I'm going to write a little bit about it and my inspiration. I hope you like it and enjoy my work as much as I do. Sam xxx
